Winnie shines as Stars flog Central

EASTERN Stars outshined Central United to walk away with a 6-2 victory in the Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League Southern Conference at the Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby on Saturday.
Aiming for a win, Central wasted no time in scoring two goals through Pala Vere in the opening 20 minutes.
Eastern Stars lost to Central in round four and had a score to settle in this match.
Shots at Central’s goal went off-target for a while until striker Tau Winnie slotted home their opening goal.
A handball in the penalty 18-yard box by Central saw Winnie slamming in the equaliser a minute before halftime.
Wanting to maintain third spot in the conference, Central came out firing in the second half but all efforts were thwarted by Eastern Stars.
Winnie again was the thorn in the Central defenders, outsmarting the opposition to register two more goals.
Eastern Stars’ Togubai brothers — Greg and Reggi — collected a goal each to seal the match.
Meanwhile, Port Moresby United maintained second spot despite losing 4-1 to conference leaders Hekari United. Bougainville beat Star Mountain 2-0 and Gulf Komara snatched a 1-0 victory over Southern Strikers.
