  • The blockage of road culverts and drains in Port Moresby is mainly caused by run offs and debris coming directly from erosion happening from top soil on hill sides in Port Moresby due to gardening mainly by settlers. This is contributing to a massive road maintenance bill being shouldered by the NCDC.
The effects of these blockages is now spreading to include houses in most of the older suburbs of Port Moresby. Most of if not the old government houses erected during the pre colonial days are sinking faster because of too much excess water soaking into the stilts which erecting ring the houses. This is causing structural damages to houses because their foundations were not constructed or reinforced properly in the 1960s when this houses were were built.
The NCDC should start banning or control the out of control hillside gardening in Port Moresby.
