Two section of the Highlands Highway – between Five Mile and Goroka town – were cut off by a fallen tree and a truck that couldn’t make it past the Five-Mile hill. The truck turned back and stopped across the road at around 9pm on Saturday night. Opportunists cut into the metal container and stole the roofing iron inside which were meant for a hardware company in Mt Hagen, Western Highlands.
Early yesterday morning, a tree fell across the Three-Mile section of the highway, youths cut the tree and cleared road but charged K5 to K10 for every vehicle that passes through.
Pictured is the looted truck at Five-Mile hill.
