The road leading into Kerema and roads within the town itself is in the worst state.
It is impassable for buses and trucks, except for four-wheel drive vehicles.
The locals have raised concerns that other services in the province – health, education, law and order, and transport infrastructure – have all fallen apart due to lack of maintenance and support from the provincial government.
Former Kerema mayor and Central Kerema LLG president Terry Maraka has urged the national government to suspend Gulf government and investigate how the millions of kina allocated to the province for development are spent.
