WITNESS

It was shocking to see the destruction of mangroves along the Papa Lealea Road in the name of development.
Garbage and soil are being piled on top of the mangroves, killing the precious sensitive ecosystems that our community relies on.
This is happening on a grand scale.
Do we want this to be a dull and lifeless coast without fish and crabs stocks and storm prone – fair cry from the beautiful coast that it once was? No!!
Do we want tourist dive sites just offshore to be covered with sediment killing the tiny seahorses that depend on the coral for survival?
We must stand up to senseless killing and harm to these precious life systems and put a stop to illegal filling of mangroves on the Motukea coastline that provides the foundation for all these precious gifts of life for which we are blessed. – Picture supplied
