THE informal sector is creating heaps of rubbish everywhere in Goroka.
Where there is a small market, piles of rubbish is also unavoidable.
Compounding to this issue, when the Town Authority fails to pick rubbish from residences, rubbish are disposed at the nearest pile – creating a health hazard.
The authority needs to do more to contain the situation.
Pictured is a pile of rubbish at Seigu market, East Goroka.

  • A business coalition against littering must be formed in Goroka to assist with such accumulation of rubbish at all corners of Goroka Town. They should not only make money from residents and general population but must have a plan to give back to the town which hosts their business. Its not a big deal; buy a few drums of fuel in a month and deliver to EHCA to do their job. I think this is the set which affects the operation of garbage collection in Goroka Town. We do understand they pay taxes to the EHPG but such token is possible to afford. Tingting tasol
