WIVES of firemen at the Lae Fire Station are the winners of the inaugural Lae Flower and Garden Show.
The show at the Lae Botanical Garden over the weekend attracted women from the city plus Bulolo and Ramu.
The Lae Fire Station Women’s Group leader Joyce Kepi said being named the overall winners painted a good picture for the group as it was their first entry in a competition or show.
She said the group was made up of women whose husbands were working for the Lae Fire Service.
“They think washing dishes, laundry and looking after home is all they can do.
“But we challenge them that there is another way of earning money instead of waiting for their husbands fortnight income and that is to plant flowers in their backyard and sell them, do decorations or participate in events such as this.”
Morobe Governor Ginson Saonu pledged on Friday to support the 30 stalls with K1000 each and announce that the show would become an annual event.
