WIVES of Papua New Guinea Defence Force officers at Murray Barracks have bought a new sound system for the officers’ mess and contributed more than K4,000 to the mess yesterday.

They yesterday presented the sound system worth K3,865 and K4,474 to improve the rundown mess.

The money was raised from the ‘Shipwreck’ island night at the officers’ mess on June 28.

On behalf of the wives, Taina Wrakonei said they had decided to do something good for their husbands and came up with the idea of fundraising to improve the mess.

“This is the first and beginning of more to come,” she said.

The occasion was attended by senior officers of the PNGDF as well as counterparts from Australia, New Zealand and Indonesia who frequented the officers’ mess.
