TEAM WNB manager John Raka is confident that team are capable of winning the soccer gold medal in front of their home crowd when they take on neighbours ENB at San Remo Stadium today.
Raka said players were unknown talents but capable of playing good football. Except for Vincent Rario, who is an experienced player, Raka believes his unknown side can come up with a positive result.
Raka will not be counting on any particular players but hopes to get support from whole the team.
After long delays and protests by Madang and East Sepik, the hosts are now ready to take on their opponents.
Team ENB also a pack of unknown soccer players from Kokopo Town Soccer Association except for Nathan James who has played semi-professional soccer with FC Port Moresby and more recently, Hekari United FC.
In the bronze medal playoff, Manus will take on AROB. Manus lost the first semifinal against ENB 2-1 while AROB went down to West New Britain 3-2.
In the women’s soccer grand final, defending champions Morobe will be out to retain their title when they take on West New Britain.
Coach Edna Thomas said after their first semifinal win over Madang that her team would be out to defend the title at all costs.
“We came here for a purpose, and that is to defend the cup. We have now gone through to the finals, and are looking forward to defend it against Team WNB,” she said.
Team WNB coach Eddie Muta is equally confident that they will win the medal in front of their home crowd.
“I am wary of the defending champions but I also want to win the game,” he said.
Muta said he would rely on Esther Muta and Romana Padio to lead the girls from the Oil Palm province. The match should keep the spectators, especially the locals on their toes throughout the 90 minutes.
In the bronze medal, Madang will take on AROB. This will also be a close game.
