WNB earns praises from Sir Michael

National, Normal

The Government will look at rewarding high performing provinces by allocating more budgetary support and resources, Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare said.
Sir Michael said WNB was one of the few provinces that actually utilises what Waigani allocated through the annual national budget.
The PM was speaking at the welcome dinner for Cabinet ministers attending the NEC meeting in Kimbe.
“I am of the firm view that we should seriously consider rewarding high performing provinces.”
Sir Michael said in that regard, the National Government had declared the New Britain road a national road, which means that it is now National Government responsibility.
He said the Government had already provided funding for district markets and plans were underway with the much-needed redevelopment of the Hoskins Airport including terminal facilities and Kimbe Port development to accommodate increase air and sea traffic as well as the upgrade of the Kandrian and Kimbe hospitals.
