WNB eyeing smooth start to school year

Schools in West New Britain are set to begin the 2018 school year smoothly after the 2017 school year was shortened to pave way for the seventh PNG Games.
All teachers will start on Jan 22, while students will begin classes on Jan 29.
Teachers have been urged to adhere to the resumption date and to be on the school premises before classes start.
West New Britain Education Board (PEB) approved and endorsed all teaching posts on Dec 20, last year.
The teaching posts were said to be the final. Other changes could not be entertained until the start of the school year.
Meanwhile, provincial guidance officer Norman Manda warned that grade 11 students from other provinces wishing to transfer into the province would not be entertained at this time.
“The situation in Kimbe, Hoskins and Bialla Secondary is such that we cannot entertain and facilitate any transfer or re-enrolment at this time,” he said.
Manda said they were only dealing with students who have been selected and approved by the Secretary for Education, Dr Uke Kombra, to do grade 11 at the three secondary schools in the province.
