THE West New Britain province is gearing up to host the National Executive Council Cabinet meeting this week.
Deputy Prime Minister and Lands and Physical Planning Minister Sir Puka Temu is expected to arrive in the province today (Tuesday) with other cabinet ministers while Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare will fly in on Wednesday when the meeting will kick off.
This will be the second time the province is hosting the meet after some 30 years.
New Guinea Islands division commander Assistant Commissioner Police Francis Tokura said security would be tightened up after 20 members from the Tomaringa Barracks were flown in to help local police on the ground.
The meeting will take place in the executive chamber of the provincial government’s headquarters in Kimbe town.
ACP Tokura said police would ensure there was no unnecessary disturbance when the ministers were in town and that he was confident there would be no security problems.
He appealed to the public who wish to meet any of the ministers this week to go through the protocol officers.
Police and provincial authorities have been preparing for the NEC meeting for a month.
