WESTERN Governor Ati Wobiro says the charges laid against him and his provincial administrator Dr Modowa Gumoi were without substance.

He said that yesterday when speaking out on last week’s court decision to dismiss the charges against him and Gumoi.

Wobiro and Gumoi were arrested in April and charged with making a K10 million payment to a legal firm but after appearances in court in May, June and July 15, the case was dismissed for want of evidence.

“Last week, July 15, the police prosecutor said he had no instruction and no information from the arresting officer, so the magistrate then threw out the case,” Wobiro said.

“This (case) was totally unnecessary as Dr Gumoi and I are totally committed to doing the right thing.

“For police to unnecessarily tarnish our name by not carrying out proper investigations is totally unfair.

“One can only conclude that there were other interests apart from actual investigations into alleged misappropriation of public funds.”
