WOLVES are the premiers in the Under 10 and U12 divisions of the 2011 Goroka Futsal grand final over the weekend.
In the U10 division, the Wolves managed two goals in a penalty shoot-out to claim victory.
The game was forced into a penalty shoot-out after Blue Kumuls and  Wolves fought out a scoreless draw at regulation time.
In the U12 category, the Wolves also scored a double to beat their opponents 2-0 for victory.
It was a joyous and emotional moment for the youngsters and their founder Nelly Genia who shed tears after their victories at the National Sports Institute in Goroka on Saturday.
In the U18 division, last year’s champions, Sacred Heart Primary School surrendered the title to West Com after succumbing to a 2-0 loss.
In the senior women’s division, Telikom belted Kurakums 2-0 to win the crown.
However, Telikom’s mentor Thomas Gundu was satisfied with the girls’ performance.
He said they would return a much stronger side next season.
One of the established soccer clubs in the Goroka Soccer Association, Cross Roads fielded a good side to defeat Blue Kumuls 3-1 in the men’s open category.
Steven Agunam and Brenden Yambu worked tirelessly to restrict Cross Roads from finding any room to take a shot at goal.
Association chairperson Velda Mave thanked teams for participating in this year’s competition.
Mave said she was happy that they did not encounter any major problems throughout the season leading up to the finals.
“I invite all the teams to return in the new season and make the competition in Goroka alive again,” Mave said.
Teams in the final four were given cash awards with the highest amount going to the winning sides.
The association also organised awards in the fair play, best goalkeeper, top goalscorer, referees and officials categories.
