Woman allegedly involved in armed robbery appears in court
A WOMAN charged with armed robbery appeared at the Waigani Committal Court yesterday.
Jannet Holape of Kupari village in Tari, Hela, was charged with one count of armed robbery.
She was allegedly part of a group with four other men, armed with two hand guns, that held up a couple in their vehicle and stole the vehicle containing cash and valuables worth K28,400.
The offence took place on Sept 2, between 7am and 11am at the Community Hall in Morata 1, Port Moresby.
Holape was with the men when the couple, Samuel Islam and wife Jennifer McKiwa, drove by in their Toyota Hilux.
The robbers stole the vehicle at gun point.
They allegedly took four smartphones – a Samsung Galaxy S9 worth K4,000, a Samsung Note 9 worth K4,000, a Huawei 9 worth K3,000 and an Oppo 7 worth K3,000. They also allegedly took K15,000 in cash.
It was alleged that Holape, aged between 48 and 50, used to work for the couple as a cleaner.
She was alleged to have threatened the couple through text messages telling them they would be robbed.
The matter was reported and Holape was apprehended and questioned but denied the allegation.
She was then formally arrested and charged with one count of armed robbery.
Magistrate Cosmas Bidar adjourned the matter to Oct 18.
