Woman and partner face K184,300 case

A woman and her partner charged with stealing K184,300 from the office of an assistant police commissioner appeared for mention at the Waigani Committal Court yesterday.
The prosecution told the court that the matter was set for ruling yesterday.Magistrate Mekeo Gauli, however, had to extend the bails and adjourn the case to July 17 because the court was not ready to proceed with the ruling.
Agnes Jimu and her partner Charles Andrew Epei were charged with one count of stealing.
Police alleged that on Oct 5 last year, between 6pm and 7pm at Boroko Police station in Port Moresby, Jimu and Epei stole K184,300 the property of Electoral Commission.
The police report stated that the money was confiscated from the National Capital District election manager in 2017 during the general election.
It was kept in a safe box as an exhibit of bribery inside the office of the Divisional Commander of NCD and Central, Sylvester Kalaut.
It was alleged that after the stealing, the office was set on fire to remove traces of evidence.
Two five-litre containers of petrol were found in the kitchen inside the building after the office was set on fire, the police report stated.
