A 24-YEAR-OLD woman from New Ireland who allegedly tried to bribe a policeman not to arrest her has been issued a warrant of her arrest after she failed to turn up in the Waigani Committal Court yesterday.
Magistrate Garry Unjo issued the warrant for Natuharinah Holden, of New Irelands’ Nonopai village, Kavieng, charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Police Prosecutor Sgt Sandra Holland requested for the warrant after Holden failed to appear despite being called several times.
Holden’s K500 bail was set aside and the case will return to court on Aug 17.
Police alleged that on April 21 at about 6.30pm at the Boroko Police Station, Holden was arrested for producing pornographic materials under section 229 (a) of the Summary Offences Act.
During the course of her arrest, she allegedly offered K400 cash in an attempt to induce police officer Constable Joshua Yawiza from arresting her.
However, Const Yawiza alerted two other officers – Const Anthony Kendeng and First Const Kerry Palme, about Holden’s action.
The money offered was confiscated and Holden was further investigated for attempting to pervert the course of justice.
