A CORPSE found in a coffee garden at a Wau village in Bulolo, Morobe, at the weekend has led to fighting by two villages.
According to Morobe police commander Superintendent Alex N’Drasal, relatives of the deceased retaliated and chopped a woman to death and two males were wounded and taken to the Wau Health Centre early yesterday.
Police believe the fighting between Biawen and Kumu villages was related to the killing last weekend over land issues.
He said people from that area had been fighting over land disputes for some time. The fighting stopped some years ago after leaders intervened and resolved some issues.
“When the deceased’s body was found in the coffee garden last weekend, it escalated again and police believe it was a tribal-related killing,” PPC said.
“Police in Bulolo and Wau have been deployed to the fighting zone.”
A medical officer accompanied police officers to treat the wounded. Police are trying to contain the situation, N’Drasal said. Peace talks are planned for this week.
