Woman dies from child-birth difficulties
The National, Tuesday July 14th, 2015
A WOMAN from East Sepik, who gave birth to triplets, died at the Boram General Hospital in Wewak from complications.
According to faith-based organisation Samaritan Aviation, the late Augustina, from Hauna village, delivered two babies, a boy and a girl, in the village and was having problems.
Medical workers at the Sepik Christian Ministry Clinic at Hauna began to suspect that either she had a retained placenta or possibly a third baby in the womb.
Samaritan Aviation’s medical director Chris Cooke coordinated plans with Sepik Christian and scheduled a flight out to pick her up as early as possible.
Augustina had six young children and this was her seventh pregnancy.
Samaritan Aviation’s president and pilot Mark Palm said on landing in Wewak, she delivered another healthy baby girl.
“But she continued to suffer from complications,” he said.
“During a second surgery to try to stop her bleeding, she passed away.
“Samaritan’s staff is working with the nurses at Boram Hospital and the caregiver to ensure that the baby is well taken care of until she can be returned to the village.
“So (we’re) thankful that the three babies are doing well, staff at Samaritan Aviation is deeply saddened over the loss of Augustina.”
