A WOMAN died last Sunday in Wewak in a hotel where she was staying with her boyfriend, police say.

Provincial police commander Chief Supt Joe Poma said the woman, of mixed Milne Bay and East Sepik parentage, collapsed on Sunday night and was rushed to hospital.

“She was pronounced dead on arrival,” he said.

“Her body has been placed at the Wewak General Hospital morgue as police await the

result of autopsy to complete their investigation.”

Poma appealed to her relatives from Yangoru to remain calm and let police investigate her death.

He also issued the statement following reports of destruction and looting at the hotel where they were staying.

Meanwhile, he urged youths to be mindful of the dangers of steam and refrain from consuming it.

“There’s beer in the shops, hotels and clubs. If you want to enjoy beer, go to the right

place where it is safe and enjoy yourselves,” he said.

“Please stay away from steam because it is harmful.”
