A FEMALE officer with the Wabag district treasury was arrested and charged by police last Thursday with allegedly misappropriating more than K4 million belonging to the treasury office.

Acting provincial police commander Insp Epenas Nili said Emily Abel, 32, and of Sopas village, about 20km outside Wabag

town, Enga, was arrested and charged with 36 counts relating to misappropriation and false pretence.

Nili said she faced 18 counts of misappropriation of money belonging to the state and 18 counts of false pretence.

“Police are still investigating into the Wabag district treasury account which transpired in 2012 and more arrests will be made.

“This arrest is just the beginning of a network of a syndicate stealing money from the state,” Nili claimed.

“She is currently out on a K1,000 National Court bail with two of her guarantors paying another K1,000 each,”

Nili said that she was allowed bail by the National Court in Wabag last Friday.

“We are expecting more arrests to be made in the coming days.”
