A 42-YEAR-OLD woman from Gumine, Chimbu, appeared before the Waigani Committal Court for falsely claiming K513,361.35 from the savings account of a deceased person.
Magistrate Cosmas Bidar said Rebecca Daniel was charged with three counts of false pretence over obtaining a large amount of money belonging to the late Leo Alauro, a CS officer.
It is alleged that Daniel pretended to be Alauro’s daughter when she claimed the money from the deceased’s Numberwan Super Ltd savings account.
It was alleged that between Aug 25, 2016, and Oct 4, 2018, Daniel used false identification to obtain the money.
Police alleged that Daniel conspired with PNG Correctional Services headquarters officers to acquire Alauro’s superannuation savings.
She pretended to be Alauro’s daughter to claim the money and dishonestly applied it for her own use.
Daniel was arrested and charged by the Boroko criminal investigation division and was released on a bail of K2,000.
The case was adjourned to Oct 24.
