A woman charged under the Cyber Crime Act for using a cell phone to allegedly harass another woman appeared before the Waigani Committal Court yesterday.
Magistrate Cosmas Bidar, when reading out Daphne Yambali’s charges, said on April 21 Yakambali was alleged to have intentionally and without lawful excuse used a cell phone to message Gabriella Angi, purposely to harass and cause emotional stress.
Yakambali, who is from Angoram in East Sepik, told the court that she was clear with the charges. Magistrate Bidar said such cases these days were becoming familiar.
“That’s why the parliament in its wisdom enacted the law as such incidents were affecting many people,” he said.
Magistrate Bidar, after adjourning the case to Sept 27 to allow time for police to conduct further investigations, ordered that Yakambali not interfere with any state witnesses, that she remained in the National Capital District until the case was over and that she attended all her court proceedings.
