APPOINTING political cronies to public service jobs is a major obstacle in the delivery of goods and services to the people.

Highlands’s regional president of Women in Politics (WiP) Dere Cecillia from Kerowagi in Chimbu, told The National on Monday her district was yet to see developments.

She claimed that people with little training or no training at all were appointed to occupy positions in the district.

Cecillia said she saw this happening in her district, which has left the district administration “in total chaos”.

She said the district’s public service system need a major overhaul.

“When we have people properly trained to occupy the positions, they will carry out their duties without too much head-scratching and confusion, knowing very well where to start and where to stop,” she said.

She said many thought that appointing cronies to public service posts was a good thing to reward their supporters in the elections but forget to consider whether those appointees would be productive or if they had been trained for the jobs.
