A 70-year-old woman from Tatana village, Central province, urgently needs financial help to undergo heart surgery in Cairns, Australia.
Rahe Henao, a former deaconess with the Tatana Araia United church, has been diagnosed with a blocked heart and has to undergo surgery to have a permanent pacemaker inserted.
She has been hospitalised at the Port Moresby General Hospital since Feb 4 and has now been referred to undergo immediate treatment at the Cairns Private Hospital.
Henao needs K70,000 to undergo the life-saving operation.
The money covers the cost of surgery, airfares, hospital accommodation for patient and guardian, escort doctor, anaesthetist’s fee, pharmacy and physiotherapy expenses.
Medical committee fundraising coordinator Varo Avi said Henao would be travelling to Cairns on April 2.
Avi said the family had managed to raise some money through a corporate dinner held this month but they needed more.
Henao’s family are appealing for financial help from the public.
