Education

AN Australia Awards recipient has started a counselling practice called “family empowerment consultants” to help people in Imbonggu and Ialibu-Pangia in Southern Highlands.
Wendy Tame graduated with a graduate certificate in counselling through the Australia Awards PNG programme in 2019.
According to a statement from the Australian High Commission, Tame has helped more than 1,000 individuals, empowered wayward youth and restored peace to homes and marriages through counselling and conflict resolution.
In 2022, with a vision to raise awareness about child brain development and promote early childhood learning, Tame opened the Edmond Hill Day Care in Mokapoi village in Ialibu-Pangia.
The childcare teaches children new routines, fosters peer relationships and independence – all of which provide quality early childhood education.
Parents have reported observing their children exhibit learned skills like good manners and reciting the alphabet and have also become more involved in their children’s education.
Tame’s passion and heart for her community has been the driving forces behind her work, and she plans to procure variety of learning resources for her students.
