THE Momase and Highlands regions will be represented at the inaugural Women’s National Provincial Sevens Championship this weekend in Port Moresby.

A combined team of Madang, Lae and Goroka players have completed an intense training camp at the weekend at the National Sports Institute.

The training camp was staged to get the girls prepared for the NPC and covered of skills, game knowledge and a bit of strength and conditioning work-outs.

Representatives from the Papua New Guinea Rugby Football Union, development manager Sailosi Druma and Pacific in Union In-Country manager Frank Genia conducted the camp.

The championship will be fielding 12 teams including an invited team from the Steamships sevens tournament. Nine teams are clubs from the Capital Rugby Union. The teams: Spartans, Defence, Harlequins, Southern Chiefs, Nova, Sisters, Wanderers, University, Juggernauts (CRU), Highlands/Momase, Steamies and Madang.

The weekend is expected to create a lot of excitement as the women showcase their attacking skills. Adding flavor to the two-day rugby fest will be the school girls Under-15 and U19 matches.

Teams from the Autonomous region of Bouganville will be participating as part of the Pacific In Union rugby4schools programme.

This tournament will be used to select the national train-on squad that will prepare for the Hong Kong sevens next March.
