HOHOLA off-season league will resurrect their women’s competition this weekend.
League president Ignatius Nala said yesterday that four teams – Malapin Sisters, Taraga D Sisters, Figgy Dumper Sisters and BP Knights Sisters – would take part in the last round of the competition.
Nala said all the women’s teams were called sisters to emphasise the Hohola league’s objective to boost community participation in the competition.
He said the women’s matches would kick off at 11.30am tomorrow and Sunday as curtain-raisers to the men’s A grade games.
“My long-term plan is for a permanent women’s competition in Hohola and not one off as witnessed in the past,” he said.
Nala said the women’s rugby league was revived two years ago and his association would continue to support and promote gender equality among players in Hohola.
“We have talent here but as executives we are not encouraging women to play,” Nala said.
He urged the women players to be physically fit and get medical check. Clearance to avoid serious injuries.
