PNG Women’s Rugby Football League is gearing up to attend the Festival of the World Cup in England on June 27 to July 8 next year.
Affiliation forms and criteria have been sent to the 11 centres which include forming a formal board to run women’s RFL administration.
Each league is expected to have support from their male counterparts to provide technical support, club coaching, training and basic skills.
Women’s league have been set up in Mendi, Banz, Minj, Kond, Mt Hagen, Kundiawa, Goroka, Lae, Port Moresby suburb, Rabaul and Port Moresby.
However, only leagues that meet the criteria will be recognised.
The PNGWRFL is organising fundraising dinner at the Gateway Hotel on May 15.
The league is expecting business organisations, the government and officials from the Australian High Commission, Rugby League International Federation and Australian Rugby League to attend the event.
The league is eager to raise funds for administering their affairs, competition and other programmes.
The PNG National Rugby League Bid has also been supporting the women’s league in sponsoring the event.
“It is a huge task to establish an organisation coming from a humble settlement background. The work is just too much but to fulfil my vision and bring hope and joy among the women in the settlements will be a chance of life time,” founder Wendy Michael Kohum said.
Some programmes will include health checks and awareness, spiritual enrichments, social awareness and financial sustainability programmes in micro-financing such as accessing activities to build and keep each player, supporter and official busy.
Early bookings can be made through Kohum on 7305 7368 or Anna Mondo on 7216 5026.
