Women’s league picks up pace

RUGBY league for women is on the roll in East New Britain with the inaugural trial match kicking off early this week.
It was played at Kalabond field on Monday.
Rabaul Stingrays beat Kokopo Sisters 12-4 in a surprisingly competent display.
Supporters and spectators were amazed at the level of skills displayed.
The 40-minute encounter played in four 10 minute quarters and refereed by ENB’s first female referee, Matilda Tigilai, saw the Stingrays outplay the Sisters, coached by former Kumul Normoyle Eremas.
ENBWRL president and Stingrays captain, Grace Michael, led her charges by example and was ably supported by hooker Emma Fong, Brigette Nonelle, Lilliam Gekesun, Bernadette Nakamura, Juanita Baule, Daisy Vevo, Jermaine Tangilikun and Clara Tamlik.
Utility Lynette William, Sunaim Livuan, Maryanne Ilamia, Detuel Niting and Nellie Leslie were also outstanding.
Standout players for Kokopo Sisters were captain Roselyn Dion, No.7 Lorraine Nakamura and forwards Raag Perris, Rosemary Kalama, Hazel Kotong, Ruth Tilik while backs Hane Tobata, Emma Joe, Georgina Tiriliu, Shirley Vonoai and schools students Brigette Salhuteru at centre and fullback Nicola Mato.
