The 2014 Port Moresby women’s corporate slow pitch competition is set to start in April with nominations open for participation.

Last year 20 corporate teams took part and organisers were expecting a similar interest this year.

The Pacific MMI sponsored off-season competition will now be held at the Murray Barracks oval because the Bisini diamonds is due to undergo upgrading works for next year’s Pacific Games.

The Papua New Guinea Defence Force headquarters has given the green light for the competition to go ahead at Murray Barracks.

Port Moresby Womens Softball Association president Jenny Paak is now calling on interested business houses to register or contact the association on email [email protected]

The registration is K1, 500 and the deadline set for March 29.

Last year Remington beat Digicel to the inaugural title.

Price Waterhouse Coopers, Twivey Lawyers, Exxon Mobil, Inter Oil, PNG Power, PMMI and Nambawan Super were among the other teams which participated.

President Paak said the aim of the competition was to promote the code, which also provided an avenue to identify new talent.

“We have seen new faces, families on the field this season and would like to bring more families to the diamonds,” Paak said.

She said softball is a family sport and POMWSA would like to promote the practice of unity through initiatives such as the slow pitch comnpetition.
