Women benefit from Miss PNG pageant: Chairperson

MANY young women around Papua New Guinea have been benefited from the pageant platform and are continuing to shine in their spheres of influence, the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant PNG (MPIP PNG) says.
Committee chairperson Molly O’Rourke said this when congratulating a beneficiary of a MPI PNG scholarship.
“We would like to congratulate Peggy To’Ogamena from Sogeri, Central, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in tourism and hospitality management from Divine Word University (DWU) in Madang last year,” she said.
“To’Ogamena was employed by Destinations Sogeri and was involved in organising the inaugural pineapple festival last year.”
O’Rourke said they were proud of To’Ogamena and her achievement.
The young woman was accepted to study at DWU Madang in 2016.
“I had my ticket from the Department of Higher Education, but I didn’t have enough money to enroll for semester one,” To’Ogamena said. “But God was good and the Friends of School Foundation assisted me in securing the MPIP PNG sponsorship.
“I was blessed with that scholarship.
“I am so grateful to MPIP PNG and Friends of the School Foundation for assisting me achieved my goal.”
O’Rourke said MPIP focused on developing young women holistically, ensuring women grow in academia, social consciousness, personal development and exposure to a bigger brighter world.
“Our core purpose is the empowerment of women,” she said.
“We are a unique pageant style platform that promotes cultural heritage, traditional values and sharing through tourism about our country and people with a parallel focus on education through our scholarship fund.
“We crown a young woman as Miss PNG annually to be a representative of modern PNG and who can share the values in the Melanesian ways.”
