A WOMEN’S group in Port Moresby is urging residents to support the city authority’s clean, healthy and active campaign.
Vibobu Women’s Association president Maryrose Ron told The National that since the group’s formation in April by informal sector womenfolk of Morata 1, they were cleaning their streets and also the Morata 1 bus stop and market on a voluntary basis every Tuesday.
Ron said their main aim was to see people disposing of their rubbish properly.
“From our street, we came up and cleaned the main Morate 1 bus stop and community hall, creating awareness for people not to litter and to get rid of rubbish in a proper manner,” she said.
“Port Moresby is our city and some of us have been living here for decades and call it home so we have to take ownership and look after it.”
Ron said her group of women was motivated by a visiting team from Liverpool, England, which was organised by the NCDC governor’s office.
The association was formally launched last Tuesday at the Port Moresby Nature Park by NCDC Governor Powes Parkop. The women are appealing to individuals and business houses to assist them with cleaning tools.
