Women donate items to schools
The National, Thursday 07th February, 2013
A WOMEN’S group in the Ramu valley of Madang made a special delivery to two schools in neighbouring Markham valley, Morobe.
The Tarangau women’s group donated 10 new bunker beds for the girls’ dormitory at Markham Valley High School and gave library books to the Mutzing Primary School.
Principal of Markham Valley High School, Ebae Oreng, thanked the group for the donation.
“The school is already faced with many challenges in accommodation for the students, water problems, deteriorating classrooms, and funding that was promised by the government but has not been forthcoming,” he said.
“The donation of the beds will relieve a burden off the school.”
The group’s spokesperson, Angela Aldridge, said they were happy to assist with this donation after finding out that the school could not accommodate boarding female students due to the shortage of beds and dormitories.
The Tarangau women’s group was established four years ago and consists of wives of executive managers employed by Ramu Agri industries Ltd (RAIL).
The group organises fund-raising drives where money is put into a fund and used to buy items that are needed in the local community.
The bunker beds were bought from the building department of RAIL at a discounted price.
