A GROUP of women in Lae are going for early morning walks to keep themselves fit and healthy.
The Lae City Health and Fitness Club is led by president Jacobeth George and her deputy Carol Yawing. George said they formed the club to promote a healthy lifestyle as many were young and needed to avoid lifestyle diseases.
“It’s all about burning the fat muscles and get the body into condition. Also to mingle and get to know each other in the community we live in,” she said.
“Most of us work and spend a lot of time in the office, and when we reach home we head straight for the kitchen and have no time in relaxing our muscles.
“It’s really good.”
She said the walk was not only for mothers but also for children and fathers.
The walk every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday begins at 5.30am.
Yawing said waking up early and walking on the streets would also reassure city residents to come and enjoy the environment without any fear of harassment.
