WOMEN from 20 parish in Bulolo, Morobe, are fortunate to acquire new knowledge in sewing cloth for church altar and pulpits, for different religious seasons.
Women from the Evangelical Lutheran church – Mumeng – attended the two-week training on knitting and sewing.
They graduated last Friday.
Women’s adviser Nera Bemalu said the designs on altar and pulpit cloth depicted different religious seasons that the church observed and celebrated.
Bemalu urged the women to make use of their skills in their respective parish and congregations.
“No one will tell you but you’ve got to start somewhere,” she said.
“The skills you’ve attained is very vital to help you to generate income for your families.”
The training was the first for empowering women at the church’s district with life skills.
It was facilitated by Sina David of Malangta parish, who took lessons on gown sewing, Leah Taelabu of Kaukesa (altar cloth sewing) and Yaeng George, who taught the mothers about beautification.
The training came about after a visit by women from GKI church of West Papua last year, through a partnership programme with Mumeng.
The three facilitators went for a training in West Papua, which they imparted their knowledge to the mothers.
Mumeng women’s coordinator Francisca Matoma said they would continue more training for women in the district.
“We will help women to venture into business through such training, to help women’s ministry and church district,” she said.
“We will also conduct other trainings like cooking and baking for all women.”
