WOMEN of Abau District in Central are happy with the week-long capacity-building workshop in Mirigeda village.
The workshop ends today with the presentation of certificates to the 32 participants.
The workshop was funded by AusAID under a programme of the provincial government and the joint district planning and budget priority committee (JDP&BPC) of Abau district.
It covered leadership, gender issues, family and sexual violence, Lukautim Pikinini Act, bookkeeping, basic accounting, literacy and personal viability.
Abau Council of Women president Gennie Kapigeno said: “This programme is very helpful as it helps in the development of the women in the rural areas.
“I want such helpful workshops to be conducted again,” she said.
Kapigeno said the workshop covered issues affecting women and now the participants would be able to help in the development of the district.
“I want to tell the women to come out of their shells and help in the building of this nation,” she said.
“Women are important partners in the development of this nation.”
She was happy with four men who also participated in the workshop.
She thanked AusAID, Office of Community Development Central and Sir Puka Temu for the support under JDP&BPC, government departments and NGOs that helped facilitate the workshop.
