WOMEN in East New Britain have been urged to dress in black today to show their support for the national haus krai protesting violence against women.

President of the East New Britain Council of Women Alice Pawa said when women dressed in black, it showed their sorrow for fellow mothers, sisters and aunts who had been victims of violence.

Pawa said the National Council of Women supported the Women Arise movement to tell the national government that it should do more to address violence against women.

She said there were no plans to stage a haus krai in East New Britain but they would show their support for the protest by dressing in black.

“We will support the movement by dressing in black to show men  and the government that enough is enough,” she said.

“Women are homestay for families yet our daughters are raped and killed.”

“In traditional PNG, women are subordinates and our roles were less important and played down and taken for granted.

“That is wrong because whoever is raping and killing was born out of a woman,” she said.
