Women receive financial training

FIFTEEN women have been given financial training organised by the Youth Empowerment Foundation and Canadian Fund.
Foundation secretary Stanley Kavii said the Canadian high commission wanted to help the women look after chicken farming and conduct their business formally.
“The skills about budgeting income, saving, depositing, applying for a loan and opening new accounts are important for the women,” he said.
Canada Fund for local initiative coordinator Nicola Roth said the project would provide women access to business and start-up capital.
“This will support these women and prioritise their accessing the financial economic market,” said Roth.
The training was provided by Bank South Pacific, National Development Bank, Westpac and National Capital District Commission (NCDC).
NCDC gender desk official Sedrick Neni said women should not be controlled by men because they had their own ways to do business.
Westpac outlet manager Raphael Waiyala said budgeting income was important.
He encouraged them to plan their business and budget their income.
“If you don’t plan or budget, you are planning to misuse the income or your business,” he said.
