Women rise against violence
The National, Wednesday March 2nd, 2016
WAU and Bulolo women in Morobe stormed the streets of the two mining townships last Saturday shouting and chanting “noken paitim meri, husait karim yu?” (No violence against women, who gave birth to you)?’’
Wau-Bulolo Women Arise PNG event coordinator Immaculate Javia urged all women to put aside their differences and embrace each other and strive to addressing issues affecting women including gender-based violence.
“Our endeavour shouldn’t be specific to violence alone but in other crucial impact areas that would enhance women to prosper in our welfare and well-being,” she said.
“Thus, district authorities, government agencies, private entities and individuals are urged to support women activities organised in various districts in future.”
The walk for violence against women and girls lured all women groups in the six LLGs, companies, government and churches and police.
The walk was initiated by Women Arise PNG Bulolo charter. Wau-Bulolo female small scale miners association president Leslie Bangan and members courageously led the event in 16 vehicles convoy from Wau to Bulolo under the police mobile squad escort.
