Women rule squash

PAPUA New Guinea’s women’s squash team won gold, while the men’s won bronze in the team finals yesterday at the Steamship Racquet Club.
The women’s squad of Eli Webb, Nicole Gibbs, Lynette Vai were too good for the women’s final against New Caledonia, defeating them 3-0, 3-0, 3-2 for the top honour.
The men’s team thrashed the Tahitians in straight sets to grab bronze in the men’s team event, while Fiji’s women’s team beat the Tahitians to grab bronze for their country.
Four countries, Fiji, New Caledonia, PNG and Tahiti took part in the competition.
Gibbs dedicated the win to the team and country’ saying it was a collective effort.
“Congratulations to my girls for working hard and striving for gold for the country,” she said.
