More than 5000 people at Transgogol, in Madang, who depend on cocoa for income, need roads to make going to the market easier, says a producer .
The lack of road forces the villagers to carry their cocoa beans in bilum and walk eight kilometres to Ninam River to catch a PMV to Madang town.
Iwap said the people need better bridges at Mawan and Ninam rivers.
According to Cocoa Board statistics, there are 28 fermentaries in the area that benefits more than 5000 people from the Oronga, Bai, Bigawa Ebena, Eka Imam, Magilan and Kosilanta areas.
Iwap said there is no road linking Magilan and Kosilanta where hundreds of cocoa farmers carry cocoa beans on their back for several hours to Ninam River.
