Women to elect new council head

 THE National Council of Women will go to the polls in December to elect new executives, according to the Constitutional Law Reform Commission.
Secretary Dr Eric Kwa, who is the legal adviser to the National Council of Women, said a National Council of Women Act was being worked
on.
“We are currently in the interim stages which means that all councils have interim officers (at the moment) awaiting the elections on December 6,” Kwa said.
He said all women would have to affiliated or registered with ward councils to be able to vote during the December election.
“At the ward level, an affiliation fee of K10 will be collected from interested women, men and youths who would like to register their right to vote,” he said.
NCD interim president Maria Andrews said they were coordinating all ward elections the district.
She said they wanted to ensure that the ward elections were successful. She admitted that there are many challenges which contributed to the slow delivery.
Andrews urged the women to be patient and to work with her team in organising a fair and free election.
Department of Community Development’s Gayle Tatsi said: “With one common goal in mind, we must work together and take advantage of the opportunity provided by the government to help the women of PNG.”
She said everyone must make the National Council of Women effective and better.
