WOMEN voters in Chimbu will have their own booths at the polling stations and should not face threats or intimidation as in the past.
Chimbu provincial elections manager Steven Gore Kaupa said in Kundiawa the concept was tested during the by-election for the Kundiawa-Gembogl last year and proved successful.
“We now have separate polling booths for women in all the polling venues in the six districts of Chimbu,” he said.
Ten women are among 345 candidates contesting the six open and one regional seats in Chimbu.
Kaupa said more than 3,000 security force would monitor the polling.
Meanwhile, provincial police commander Supt Augustine Wampe warned those planning to disrupt polling that security would be tight.
Joint security force would focus attention on Gumine, Karimui-Nomane, Kerowagi, Chuave and Kundiawa-Gembogl as they were regarded as “hot-spots”.
