Women train to improve business

WOMEN who sell items at the old Gordon Market have been trained to improve their small businesses.
“This programme has shown us how to improve the way we carry out our business,” said Evelyn Ole, one of the participants.
Ole and 80 other women received certificates at the PNG Education Institute Hall in Gordon on Friday.
Ole said the training was beneficial, saying it was the first time for some of them to be a course.
The women were taught to improve their money-handling skills, save, and improve the way they do business.
Some of the mothers were illiterate so learning to read and write was a big challenge.
Corporate Services Division manager Rodney Sumale said the training was to help women in the informal sector move up to the formal sector where they can access services provided by the government.
The Start and Improve Your Business training programme is an initiative of the International Labour Organisation to create more and better employment opportunities by providing training to individuals.
