WOMEN leaders from the seven highlands provinces and Morobe paid their last respects to the late Scholla Kakas yesterday in Mt Hagen, Western Highlands, as her body arrived for the funeral.

Kakas was president of the National Council of Women until her death.

The presidents of the provincial council of women, executives and members gathered at Queens Park Oval to receive the casket when it arrived from Port Moresby.

Western Highlands women’s leader Paula Mek said through the hard work of Kakas, the Government had finally recognised the women’s council and the women’s network in the country.

“Women leaders supported Scholla to push our agendas and visions forward.

“Her death is a great loss to the women and girls in the country,” Mek said Kakas’ casket was transported to Wabag yesterday afternoon.

She will be laid to rest this afternoon at her Kaiap village, about 10km west of Wabag town.
