WOMEN are already gearing up for the PNG Rugby Football League annual general meeting in Lae next month to seek a possible inclusion in the rugby league family.
PNG Women Rugby Football League interim president Wendy Kohun said this week that they were ready to make a change in the game.
She said the Port Moresby women’s rugby league had sought the assistance of Billy Yaki, who is involved with the NCD off-season league competition to pursue their objective.
They have already come up with a team that will be participating in the competition.
Kohun said 16 teams had already signed up to participate in the off-season competition.
However, she said they were eager to be a member or an affiliate of the PNGRFL to have a chance of participating in international tournaments such as the April Games in Cairns, a challenge against the Jillaroos (women) in September and the World Cup in Wellington in October.
The president said there was an overwhelming interest among the womenfolk in PNG that they were serious about playing rugby league.
Currently, there are women competitions in Goroka, Lae, Wabag, Kundiawa, Mt Hagen and Port Moresby.
