Women weavers host annual festival
THE Women Weavers of Milne Bay (WWOMB) held their annual festival in Alotau, Milne Bay, last week.
Women and men participated by displaying arts and crafts, traditional cooking methods, dances, fashion and many other items.
The festival is held with the aim to celebrate and preserve the way of life and this is the fourth year running that it has been held.
This year saw a new partnership between WWOMB and PNG Fashion Week.
The partnership aims to promote tourism in the region and export talent from Alotau to the nation’s capital to be showcased at the PNG Fashion Week event in October, according to WWOMB.
PNG Fashion Week director and founder Philma Kelegai said: “The talent in this country is limitless.”
The cultural event was held from June 7–8 with great participation by the people from the province.
This year’s chosen fashion designer was Marjorie Yabom, while the model was Jessie Terence.
Both Yabom and Terence will fly to Port Moresby in October to showcase and walk at the grand finale of ‘The Awakening” ready to wear runway show during the PNG Fashion Week.
