THE Women’s Micro Bank Ltd is upgrading its mama-bank access point in Wewak, East Sepik, to assist locals with financial services and entrepreneurial development. The bank said in a statement that during the next few months, eight more agencies would be established. The focus of the European Union-funded Support to Rural Entrepreneurship, Investment and Trade (EU Streit PNG) project is the greater Sepik region through various partnerships to improve sustainable economic development and job creation for vulnerable communities. The upgrading of the bank’s Wewak agency to a branch was due growing customer demand. UN Capital Development Fund (UNDCF) PNG country official Jagdeep Dahiya said the UNCDF would deliver the financial inclusion component. It has reached out to financial institutions including the bank to provide financial services. The three key areas are:

  • SUPPORING the expansion of digital financial services in East and West Sepik;
  • DIGITISATION of the agri-value chain and the payment system in cocoa, vanilla, fisheries and other produce; and,
  • DIGITISING of value chain actors along the value chain.
