THE second Parliament Practice for Women in PNG programme was launched yesterday in Port Moresby by the United Nations Development Programme and its partners.
Representatives from the Government, UNDP and national Parliament welcomed 50 female candidates from across the country .
Koffi Kouame, acting UN resident acting coordinator and UNFPA resident representative, speaking on behalf of the United Nations, stated that the practice parliament activity was designed to showcase the abilities of women to participate in the political life of this country.
“This activity is special because it gives each of the participants the opportunity to show the nation what they can do when they are given the chance to stand up in a parliamentary setting” Kouame said. The 50 candidates who intend to run in the 2017 national elections were selected for the five-day programme which will start today and end on Saturday.
